Book Talk Showdown

Friday, November 12, 2021

GUIDELINES

A book talk is a promotion of a book, not just a plot summary. This is NOT a book report! The purpose of this is to tell others about your book in such a way that it makes us, your audience, want to read this book. The requirements for this activity are as follows:

  1. Tell the title, author, and genre of the book.
  2. Give an overview of the setting.
  3. Give an overview of the main character(s).
  4. Provide a brief plot description, but don’t give away the ending.
  5. Include teasers. Think about the trailers for movies—what makes you want to see a movie? They show you snippets of the best parts. You need to do this.
  6. Read an excerpt from the book.
  7. To whom would you recommend this book? Give a general description of the type of people who might like to read this book. For example, “I would recommend this book to young teens whose parents are getting a divorce because . . .”
  8. Prepare and present a visual aid in addition to your book (which you must bring as well). This could be an object, a picture, a poster, or anything else that you think is important or appropriate for the presentation.
