During the opening program, which was held on August 20, Mr. Antonio Eala presented the accomplishments of the past council. Eala is the president of the council for SY 2010-2011.

The past council’s accomplishments included the holding of the 2nd Family Day, initiation of MHSS Safe School Program courtesy of Dr. Dofitas, and holding of parenting seminar every card-giving day, among others.

Dr. Dofitas also presented the results of the safe school program survey during the general assembly. The data served as the basis for crafting the safe school program of MHSS. The respondents included students, teachers, school staff and parents.

A brand new Casio electric organ was also turned over to the school principal, Dr. Efren B. Mateo, as part of the donation of the Parents’ Council.

Activities

According to Dr. Dofitas, her team “has lined up relevant and interesting activities that will enhance our children's stay” in MHSS.
“We will continue supporting the Safe School Program that was initiated by the Council in 2010. We will be inviting a speaker to share ‘Safety Tips for Commuters’ during our parenting seminar on November 5, 2011. We will also support and participate in the coming MHSS Safe School Day which will advocate for a bully-free environment,” she said.

The group, she said, also aims to improve the social and physical well-being of the students. To ensure this, she said they have planned several activities, including:

  1. A personality development seminar on social graces. This will be for the 3rd and 4th year students prior to the Junior-Senior Prom.
  2. A dengue prevention drive as suggested by concerned parents. Health information through lectures will be held and print material will be given, specifically on dengue, personal protection against mosquitoes, and how to prevent the dengue-carrying mosquitoes from proliferating.
  3. During National Skin Week in November, a free Skin Clinic consultation will be held at MHSS for the students, school staff, and the surrounding community as well.

Also, they have come up with activities that will encourage camaraderie and cooperation among parents, teachers, and students, namely Friendship Night and Induction of Officers on Sept. 23; Christmas party (Parent Council & Teachers) in December; and Family Day on January 29, 2012.

“We are looking forward to another fruitful year!” she added.
