MHSS Bags Top Prize In The MDC-CAS Week

On February 5, 2010, MHSS students participated in the recently concluded Manila Doctors College - College of Arts and Science Week. All events were competed upon: Math and Science Quiz Bee, Speech Festival, Market Basket Challenge and Mocktail Mixing. Twelve schools from the metro participated in the different contests.

At the end of the day, MHSS students went home with a number of prizes. The two teams from MHSS pool of Math and Science wizards placed 4th and 5th in the Quiz Bee. Team A was represented by Dustin Lemuel Marcelo, Ingrid Frances Ignacio, Piere Justin Luya, and Tristan Gian Pascual while Team B was composed of Kyle Zuleika Farrah Pandapatan, Camilla Bautista, Loreliza Ethyl Luya and Philip Ragudo.

On the other hand, Catherine Dianne Yao of IV-Threonine was awarded 2nd runner up in the Mocktail Mixing Challenge. Her winning entry was the concoction, Sprite Fever. The biggest winners were the student-chefs of IV-Leucine: Nasya Magbanua, Ira Avila, Jacqueline Saguin, Alyanna Abalos and Angel Tacbad. They brought home the top prize in the Market Basket Challenge. In the contest, each team was given a budget of Php 300 and they were shuttled to a nearby supermarket to buy the ingredients for an appetizer, main course and dessert they were required to prepare. The dish concocted by Team MHSS consisting of cheese-stuffed chili, Italian style pasta and panini got the judges’ nod.

Other students who participated in the contests were: Gabrielle Cabuay for impromptu speaking, Frances Salomon for dagliang pagtatalumpati, Dan Pobre for poetry reading, Kenneth Dy for madamdaming pagbasa ng tula, and Nicole Beatrice Regala, Iya Duenas and Neill de Guzman for Mocktail Mixing Challenge. Mr. Jan Erwin Macam, English teacher, and Mr. Gerlyn Francisco, MAPEH teacher, served as the coach-chaperons.

Congratulations to MHSS students for bringing home more bacon.
