Friday, July 24, 2009

Every year, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) celebrates the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW). The purpose of the nationwide activity is to promote awareness of the role that S & T plays in national development.

This year’s celebration was held on July 20-24, 2009 at PTRI Bldg, Bicutan, Taguig City with the theme, “Responding to Global Challenges through Science and Technology".

Malayan High School of Science joined the festivities on the second day. A team of 40 students equally distributed from all year levels was chaperoned by 6 teachers and staff. They attended the talk related to chemistry and viewed a variety of exhibits that enhance interest in science and technology: power of reflection – to demonstrate a property of light, robots, and harp that uses laser string, among others.

The day’s activity was highlighted by a chemistry quiz show that was participated in by one representative from five high schools, including MHSS. The other schools are Pateros National HS, Ma. Asuncion Rodriquez Tirga HS, Gen. R. Mapa Memorial HS and Sen. R. Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology HS. Piere Justin Luya, IV-Leucine of MHSS bested all the other contestants. For his achievement, Piere Justin received cash prize and a laboratory equipment (Newton’s Cradle) for the school.

Congratulations Piere Justin. Congratulations Malayan High School of Science.
