Sunday, February 1, 2009

Luc Mikhail H. Loja, 11 year-old sophomore of the Malayan High School of Science (MHSS), won the gold medal in the Chess Junior Division of the NCAA 83 rd Season. Loja, a gifted child, who was accelerated to High School with the endorsement of the Department of Education (DepEd), bested a select field of chess players from the other seven member schools of the NCAA.

“We are overjoyed with Luc’s achievement as it affirms our commitment that MHSS students will remember their school fondly for all of the rest of their lives because we opened their minds, unleashed their imagination, encouraged their curiosity and gave them a method to satisfy it, gave them the gift of words, and numbers, opened their senses to the arts, understood the need for both work and play, and just plain touched their lives. “ Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea, MHSS President proudly stated.

Malayan High School of Science (MHSS), being a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mapua Institute of Technology, is the junior counterpart of Mapua in the NCAA. It opened in June 2007 and is currently in its second year of operations. MHSS is located along Paz Guanzon St., Pandacan, Manila.
