Malayans shine at 1st national Vedic Mathematics competition

Exemplifying the school’s tradition of excellence, students of Malayan High School of Science reaped awards from the 1st Philippine National Vedic Math Olympiad held last August 15.

The competition, participated in by students from all over the Philippines, focused on Vedic Mathematics, a system of mathematics that is based on Indian teachings called Veda.

Grade 8 student Colonel Sherlon Vance V. Gonzales won the silver medal as he ranked second overall in the High School Level I. Gonzales and Grade 7 student Daniel Ethan B. Lim both took home bronze medals for the Individual Category in the High School Level I. Meanwhile, Grade 10 student Gerardo P. Acebedo captured the bronze medal for the Individual Category in the High School Level II.

Grade 8 student Mher Angelo J. Atienza, Gonzales, and Lim teamed up to bag the bronze medal for the Team Category in the High School Level I.

“I would like to congratulate all the Malayan winners and participants. We, the Malayan community, commend their dedication in representing the school in the competition,” said MHSS Principal Ms. Emmillie Joy B. Mejia.

The Math Olympiad is a part of the Philippine visit of the Institute for the Advancement of Vedic Mathematics (IAVM), a United Kingdom-based charity that supports Vedic Mathematics. It was organized by IAVM’s local affiliate MATH-Inic Philippines.
